One of Freemasonry’s oldest traditions (and rules) is that men must approach the fraternity for membership voluntarily and without any pressure. Choice is an integral part of free will. As a result, no one from Livingston Lodge can invite you to petition for membership. However, there are things we can invite you to do:

  • Have dinner with us before our meetings.
  • Participate in events and casual get-togethers.

We extend these kinds of invitations to help establish the relationships necessary to create a path to membership. Then, if you decide you want to petition for membership, all you’ll need to do is ask.

Are you interested in investing time in getting to know us and for us to get to know you? If you are, then you’re already off to a good start. How much time? It depends on you and the quality of the interactions we have together. We value your time and ours, and that means:

  • It takes time to become a Mason, so if you are interested in joining you should take the time necessary to determine whether this Lodge is right for you.
  • Family and work always come first, but the process of becoming a Mason requires time to learn and progress through the three degrees. How much time depends on each person, but candidates meet with their coach/mentors 1-2 times a week on average.

If you ultimately decide that you wish to petition Livingston Lodge for membership, then we will guide you through the steps necessary to do so.

The Grand Lodge of the State of Louisiana establishes the necessary qualifications to become a Freemason in Louisiana. You must first meet all of the following criteria before petitioning a Masonic Lodge:

  • Hold a belief in God.
  • Be a man, who is at least 18 years old.
  • Be a Louisiana resident for at least twelve months.
  • Be of good reputation as a man of honor and integrity.
  • Be able to read and write the language of the Lodge (English).
  • Be recommended by two members of the Lodge you wish to join (this will be a lot easier after you’ve spent time with us).

*All candidates must submit to a criminal background screen upon petitioning.
